Zone gathers the experience of fifteen photographers who participated in an urban reading workshop focused on the city of Forlì. Guided by the conviction that the city is a living, constantly transforming organism (Geddes, 1915), photography emerged as an ideal medium to offer new perspectives on the multiple aspects that characterize contemporary urban life. The urban explorations primarily focused on Forlì’s historic center and its peri-urban areas, including the most recent zones of transformation. The investigation paid particular attention to the architecture and morphology of the urban fabric, highlighting the role of public space in relation to private space (Lefebvre, 1974), where the interplay between natural and artificial elements, between ground and facade design, and between monumental and vernacular features, becomes most evident.
The intention is to give expression to an uncertain world in which any sense of community is fast disappearing. In this endeavour, Limo has travelled along the area bordering the Tuscan Lake Massaciuccoli to bear witness to the state of neglect and decay that characterises many of its features and urban settings. The choice of this territory, forming the subject matter of this photographic research, was dictated by the possibility of working at short-range. In this way it was possible to observe through a privileged lens, with the sense of proximity and belonging, not only specific local degeneration but the general disregard, neglect and lack of interest in the environment and the consequences of rash and ineffective territorial policies.

The photographs collected in this project were taken as part of the "Archivio in dialogo" initiative in March 2024, promoted by the Fondazione Studio Marangoni (Florence) in collaboration with the Massimo Vitali archive. The aim of this call was to engage with the photographer's work in order to develop personal pictures, capable of holding a visual dialogue with those of the archive. In my project, I started off from the space which is the most familiar and the closest to me, that is, the place where I live, in order to find points of contact and divergence in my surroundings with the work of the author I had been invited to engage with.
